Alright, my 2 cents. I just spent two full days adjudicating a jazz
festival for the California Music Educators Assoc. ALL big bands,
jr. hi and high school. There are a lot of terrific young players
playing all the big band music and loving it. I didn't hear any
young Maynards this weekend, but there are plenty of kids with real
chops, and more than a few really fine improvisers. As Mike said,
there is plenty of good music going on in our schools. By the way,
nobody sold any T-shirts. Dave
