The bottom line is: 1) Most people are tone deaf on Sunday mornings 2) Most
can't tell the difference between a quality musical contribution to worship
vs. crap.

This is one of the reasons there is such a rise in attendence at Churches
where mindless "praise music" rules the day. Most folks will tell you that
they "relate" to this much more than that boring "Bach" stuff. Egads.

Also - many times, the people who control the purse strings in Churches (the
people sitting on "administrative" councils - the treasurers, etc.) are dry
financial types who could care less whether there is any music in the
service or not - and usually tasteless and tone deaf.

At our Church, we're blessed with one of the most fabulous musical directors
and organists anyone could hope for. But if the organ needs repair work -
the financial types balk at spending the money. Pay for soloists or brass
groups? Perish the thought.. Yet... they'll go out and spend thousands to
replace pew cushions that barely need replacing or touch up paint on a
portion of the ceiling that nobody can even see. Drives me NUTS!
