No flames, but there are probably just too many variables and possibilities to draw any broad conclusions like that.  It may just as well be that your old horn is broken in or worn sufficiently enough to keep your valves from sticking.  However, I would disagree that you have to spend 4 grand to get a horn with good valves, after owning a few new horns over the last 10 plus years.  I have had one new Kanstul, one new Lawler and one new Besson (all with Kanstul pistons).  They needed to be broken in, but all worked great.  The least I spent was about $1,000 and the most was about $1,650.

Funny, all these valve topic things coming up.  I play an OLD benge.  Never 
had that trouble.  I wonder why?......:)  Here's my opinion.  Either spend 
aver 4K for a horn or buy old stuff.  Back then, (70's and earlier) They 
cared about what they made.  Today!!!....There are still a bit of small time 
operators that need to charge a lot to stay in business.  These horns are 
usually good.  Times have changed.  Spend the bucks or deal with the fact 
that horn business' (major companies) are selling junk.  Please disagree 
with me....:)  Let the flames begin...:)
