Roy Lawlor would build a A trumpet if asked . I have seriously considered
it.

Fellas,

An awful lot of 19th century music was written when trumpets and
cornets in A were common. Composers wrote these parts since they were
playable on A horns. Trumpets and cornets from the 20's and 30's commonly
had that little extra piece of tubing and a switch lever to put the horn
into A. You can play a low F# on an A tpt a lot easier than you can play
pedal F on a Bb tpt. Sounds better too.

Perhaps someone could build a nice A trumpet. A lot of us would
probably buy one to avoid the headaches associated with transposing and with

playing the pedal Fs.

Until then, all of us who hate to transpose will just have to deal with

it. Sure its a pain in the butt. Just one more source of butt pain.

How many of you have played Stars and Stripes off of the A trumpet
part? The first time I saw that part I was sure wishing I had my A
transposition down a little better. That part has been butchered by a lot
of players including me.
