Come what may, we deliver saliva into our horns every moment we play. I'm
not sure that a quick lick on a valve is going to make any difference.
Proper and constant cleaning will help avert that situation. Perhaps leaks
discovered on early horns are because they were not cleaned prior to putting
them in 'mothballs'. That, coupled with many years of time will cause more
problems than what we do on a daily basis.
