[TPIN] mouthpieces... why Bach?

Not to get side tracked, but I've seen ads from mouthpiece manufacturers
that will use Bach style mouthpiece blanks rather than their 'own'
particular style blanks in order to satisfy certain audition and auditioners
criteria. Why is this so that Bach mouthpieces are the cat's pajamas where
not only is a player's ability judged by hearing, but by the 'visual'?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Because: 1) That's what most music stores carry, if they carry anything
o ther than guitars or drums; 2) most people played a Bach mouthpiece in
their elementary/middle/high school days; 3) that's what many college
instructors recommend to their trumpet students AND what the college brass
methods classes recommend; and, 4) they're generally the cheapest online
(although my local store has started charging $45 for a Bach trumpet
mouthpiece!
