I'm going to go out on a limb with this. Could the student have an
undiagnosed malady such as diabetes, schleroderma, lupus? They possibly
could be instrumental in causing problems like split lips and the like.
Also, Brendan brought up about certain meds that could trigger this
condition. Splits are difficult to totally heal. Perhaps the student could
look into hyperbaric treatments to hasten and hopefully heal the split once
and for all. I'll bring this up with my lady friend who works with this type
treatment and will share her viewpoints with the forum. Had I known her a
few years earlier and learned about hyperbaric medicine, it may have saved
the loss of a finger that was treated with antibiotics, but finally became
gangrenous resulting in it's loss. Just my two cents plain.
