OK, I'll take.

Yes, the Pachybel is thorn in the side of any wedding musician that I know, but
the masses like it
because it sounds pretty, so they request - and get it. I don't know of any
musicians who would
suggest it. There just isn't a whole lot that can be done in the interpretation
of that piece.

On the other hand, you'd thing that the Clarke (Purcell) Trumpet Voluntary would
be the same way. As
far as I know, it isn't; and after playing it for hundreds of weddings, I'm
still not tired of it. I believe the
reason for this is that it is open for interpretation and improvised
ornamentation. Sometimes I fall into
using the same old ornaments that I've used in the past, but most of the time,
I'm not sure which
ornaments I'll use until after the piece begins. I try to stay close to what I
consider authentic (although
I'm certainly not a scholar in that area) but it does keep the piece interesting
every time I play it.

We could get into a discussion of what ornamentation is authentic, but I think
I'll wait for that until
things slow down on the list or we get into arguing (again) about picayune
subjects.
