Maybe it's 'just me', but I seem to fare better using the 495 on my horns.
While super fast valves are desired by most players, there are some of us
that like the valves SLIGHTLY 'sluggish', where the valve action feels like
glass riding on glass. Since my fingers and mind aren't always on the same
wavelength, this sluggishness helps me to slow down a tad while super fast
valves cause me to have run away fingers and less control. Even with my new
Yamaha Z, where the tolerances are very tight, the 495 does better than the
Pro which you recommend for new horns. I've had very few valve hang-ups
using it, especially with the second valve. Bill Graham made an interesting
point about rather than removing the 495 from the market, that you add to
your line by perhaps offering a viscosity that's between the 495 and the Pro
as sort of a happy medium. While there are players who are mouthpiece
fanatics, and fanatics about other trumpet issues, there are those of us who
are valve fanatics where we are more sensitive to even the slightest nuance
concerning valve action. Since you are the real expert about BINAK, what is
your opinion of mixing equal parts of 495 and Pro to provide this so called
happy medium? Would this be safe to do or is it playing with fire?
