Here's some more inside info, which addresses the "made in china" thing:

"Also, no strads are being made anywhere but in Elkhart, and there is no 
plan for
that to change.  In fact, there is a great deal of optimism about the
new crew there, and realize too that most of the "skill" people have
come back - the bell makers, etc.. are the old pros.  They are using
this change-over as a chance to tighten up some things, replacing worn
jigs, getting everything "just so" etc..  so it's all good.  I think in
a few weeks production will be up and better than ever."
