I remember going to hear him play trumpet (and he sang most of the time) 
a few years ago.  Whether the following is a judgment or not is a matter 
of opinion, but this is how it came off to me...  He went on at length 
at how a "supporter" had given him a new jet.  The whole story came off 
as very pretentious and ostentatious (and if it takes one to know one, I 
know pretentious).  It was just this kind of personal celebration of the 
accumulation of wealth that ruined Jim Bakker.  Maybe there was some 
wisdom to the Benedictines vow of poverty (or was it another order?).

After the service, he was completely unavailable to meet and speak with 
the group of trumpet players that came to see, hear and hopefully meet 
him.  We wouldn't have been nearly as disappointed if the church outside 
board had not billed this as "Phil Driscoll in Concert".

A few of us also went to see him in a clinic in Greensboro a number of 
years ago to hear his take on the Stevens/Costello method.  Even though 
he said it was a lot easier than how he played before he started this 
method, it sure looked painful to me.
