Yes,
I thought it deadened the sound which gave a fake "dark" tone. This was
helpful on smaller equipment if I had to blend with legit players.

Has anybody used a mouthpiece booster? I've seen them for Dennis Wick
mouthpieces. I've heard claims of richer lower register, and easier
upper register. Do they work?
The sound may become a bit more focused, but it seems to come at the
expense of removing some of the higher overtones and brillliance that aid in
projection. <snip>
In my experience, Yes, they can be of some benefit, dependent on the horn
you're using them on.
With some of the cheaper, lighter horns, there's an obvious difference, with
the results being as stated above, but with other horns nothing.
Save your money and go to the hardware store and buy a heavy nut for around
10 cents, put that on your mouthpiece shank and the results are exactly the
same as those expensive boosters.
