He's a composer who who is probably best known for writing for film/TV (but who has done much, much more).  He wrote themes/music for shows like Columbo, Streets of San Francisco, Simpsons, Etc.  He's the Artistic Director of the Henry Mancini Institute.

I had the good fortune to attend a week-long clinic that he did when I was in high school down in the Tidewater of Virginia.  I remember him as a great teacher and good guy.
