[TPIN] Starting a beginner on a Cornet vs Trumpet

Ellis has it in a nutshell. For those who are into the differences in
timbre, style, etc. think for a moment - you are teaching a young person,
who needs guidance in producing a sound, not THE sound, just a sound. Good
pedagogy and a sound plying basis are a tad more important than navel
gazing. Cornet, trumpet, horn euphonium, whatever, just as long as it's NOT
an alto horn. There should be a scrap metal depot close by for that! ;-)
Cheers
Andy
