I have a friend at work who is working on a comeback. He'd like to not
lug his sentimental Strad around, and is looking for a road horn. He
fell in love with my Conn Director cornet (circa 70's Japan). I've been
able to help it out by weird things like adjusting the 2nd valve slide,
etc.

The eBay low-end marketplace is awash in crap, but there are likely some
low-cost gems in there. I'm looking for recommendations on not-so-bad
horns to steer him toward, as well as some advice on definite no-no's.

TIA,
Curt

Depends on how much he wants to spend. My first thought would be an Olds
Ambassador, but then again, if one looks enough, they might be able to find a
good pro-level horn for a good price. Don't only look on eBay. Check with
local music stores, and make a few trips to pawn shops - you never
know...............
