Two words: Olds Ambassador. Usually around $100 on eBay for one in decent if 
not perfect shape. Best student trumpet ever, better than lots of much more 
expensive instruments. Everyone should have one for playing in, uh, dangerous 
places. One added advantage: they are bulletproof.

Other models to consider if for reason you can't bring yourself to get the 
Olds, Getzen 300 series,   or Yamaha student models. But really, just get the 
Ambassador.
