I agree. I have a Schilke 14a4a, and a Bach 1. I can play higher on the
Bach than the Schilke, even though many people have told me that was
impossible.

First, whoever told you it was impossible, they don't have a clue.

Second, it's not about playing higher. It's about getting the right sound for the ensemble and the part you play in it. And also getting the right support for you for the job you need to accomplish.

I can play higher on my GR66L than I can on my Marc. Bobby Shew 1, but I could NEVER use the 66L playing lead on a big band gig. The sound is wrong. It just doesn't cut enough because it's too dark. And the amount of loud high playing you need to do would have me on my knees by the end of the first set. The Shew 1 cuts like a knife with very little effort so I can still play G's on the third set without an oxygen bottle. But if I tried to play that piece on a Symphony gig, the bassoons and clarinets would go screaming for the wings... which may not be so bad come to think of it.

The right tool for the job.

I have always wondered WHY I can play higher on the GR66L or a GRe65MS than on the Shew 1. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

...Steve
