Guys,

It is interesting that people couldn't quite keep hold of what this topic was about at the beginning

Here we have a fine, experienced teacher offering his experience with young beginners. Where to start and where to go.

He offered his observations which is something that NONE of us has because Andy's experience is HIS alone. We can learn from his oservations and successes. He's not promoting big or small or this or that.

He gave his reasons for creating the BEST STARTING POINT and has had good success in large part because he understands the way the kids learn and how one figures out what DIRECTION to go with a kid. He made it plain in his first post how he had all these kids going in different directions. He helped them find the kinds of mouthpieces that would serve them well.

What a fabulous teacher. My hat is off to you Andy.

People mininterpret all over the place. Turn an obsrvation into a criticism. People insinuate that this is about large piece camp vs the small piece camp.
It's as bad as creating the Bach vs non-Bach camp. Not really very useful, but ful of antagonism and resentments. C'mon already. Andy offered some good stuff about how he helps the little guys get started moving the air through the old chunk of metal. His experience is priceless and is FOOD FOR THOUGHT for getting people started off well playing this monster.

If y'all have som experience starting kids, tell us what you do with the mouthpiece thing. What have you learned? We all want to know.

I could give a flying high F(or an H) what you started with. HOW DID IT WORK? WHAT PROBLEMS DID YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME?

HOW DO YOU GET THE KID FROM SOUNDING LIKE A GOAT IN NEED OF A HINDLICK MANUEVER? How can the mouthpiece be part of the solution.

They don't get to double C until the end of the 6th grade. C'mon.

glenn,I love the eyes of a kid who made a great sound for the first time, bengry
