[TPIN] Bad Mornings/ Good Evenings

The trick with early morning playing is getting your whole body to feel like
it does in the middle of the day... The reason many people have trouble in
the morning is because EVERYthing feels different. You're body just isn't
totally "awake" yet, maybe a little stiff, or muscles are tight. You know
how you feel in the morning... it's different than around lunch time...
When I was in grad school I had graduate quintet rehearsal at 8 in the
morning twice a week. At first I really couldn't handle it, I'd suck every
morning because it was "8 in the morning", and I was at that time a "night
practicer" for the past few years. Long story short... I found that just by
doing a fair amount of certain breathing exercises on my way to rehearsal in
the morning that my body got out of that "I can't play because it's so
early" feeling very quickly. From that point on the early rehearsals didn't
bother me... I still do those things to this day and find that the time of
day has much much less of an impact on my playing because of it... and all
the other problems have moved to the top of the list... ;)
