Dave,
Dont replace the bell! Even if it is crushed, It can often be fixed and play as good or better than before and if it is early 70's you will have a good bell (very good) a new one would not b the same.
An acid bath and a valve alignment will likely improve the "blow" as you speak of. If it were me I'd likely put the same style pipe back on it. but you can easily try some others while the old one is off to see if you find one that really plays better than the others.
