Probably dating myself... But I always liked West Side Story.
Not exactly a "blow the roof off" type of show (except the 'dance at the
gym'), but it's a great mix of styles: jazz, latin, classical/legit, big
band... Plus let's not forget those delicate last few notes in the closing
act.

Subject: [TPIN] Favorite B'way Show?
All,
We opened my daughter's high school production of Thoroughly Modern Mille
last night. The kids did really well and the audience enjoyed themselves.
And I enjoyed the challenge of putting it out there with only 1 and a half
rehearsals. I blew a few accidentals in those sections in B and F#. Nice for
the singers and strings, maybe, but not happy keys for me on limited
rehearsal time.
So this got me wondering.....
Which Broadway show is your favorite from the trumpet player's point of
view? I imagine there are some composers who write and arrange really well
for brass, and some shows that may not be fun to play because the parts are
poorly written or fiendishly difficult to the point of detracting from the
show itself.
And to all the pro show players on the list I say 'Bravo!' for being able to
handle the demands of the gig.
