Amen to that Jon. Having had a severe problem myself with alcohol and
getting fired mid gig for showing up drunk and drinking even more during the
gig, the leader really did me a big favor. I can't blame him one bit since
he gave me plenty of chances on previous gigs to straighten myself out. But
I let my drinking progress to a point where his patience ran out. As a
result, I was most ashamed where never again did I booze on a gig. The
leader never called me back, but the shock treatment of getting fired taught
me a good lesson that was of benefit to me and the musicians I worked with
on future gigs and bands.
