Musically, it's pretty much like any other Church gig (ok... Not as much
Bach as you might do at a Lutherin Church, but...)
Go dressed conservatively, suite & tie, make sure you've got a few #2
pencils, and be polite and attentive.
...Just like any other professional gig. ;-)

Subject: [TPIN] Tips for playing at a Catholic church?
I just got a paying gig. Me, of all people. I'm flabbergasted, but the guy
heard me play, and wants me to come out to his town, about four hours away,
to play in an Easter program at a Catholic church.
I haven't yet agreed to do the gig, because I want to look at the parts
first, but if it's not too far over my head, I guess I'm up for it. It's a
rehearsal Saturday then two performances on Sunday. I'm going to try to
stay Saturday with my brother-in-law so I avoid spending 16 hours
travelling.
So how do I avoid embarrassing myself? I've never been to a Catholic
service, and I haven't played in an ensemble for 20 years. I think this is
actually a much bigger to-do than I would elect to make my public debut as a
trumpet player, but I feel like I should probably answer this call anyway.
How often do adult beginners with only a couple years of study get offered
money to play? Not very often, I wouldn't expect. Plus I don't know any of
these people, and they don't know me, so any slips will easily be forgotten.
