[TPIN] Tips for playing at a Catholic church?

My *guess* (guess) is that policies (including bans on anything) are as much
due to the nature of the clergy/staff running a particular church/parish, as
any hard and fast doctrine.

We see variation like this in the Presbyterian Church also (Protestant).
Some are extremely conservative, and never step outside the mold - follow
the Church's Book of Order to the letter, and also program music very
conservatively, while other (like ours) have all sorts of variation -
including mixing of sacred and secular music with the service.

I've done everything from playing excerpts from the Messiah, to The Prayer
of St. Gregory (Orthodox in theme) to the Gottfried Reiche, to Jazz Trios...
and even Dixieland. Once, a minister had me stand up - in the congregation,
in the middle of a sermon - and play the fanfare from the William Tell
Overture. I've long since forgotten what the theological message was in
connection with that one! ...something about "confidence" or something like
that.
