I would bet it's safe to say that MOST players (pro or otherwise) don't
*really* understand *exactly* how their chops work.  

But I think it has to be said that regardless of how well you're playing
mechanically - and regardless of how well you *think* you understand the
mechanics of your chops - there is a point at which chops get tired
<period>, and a certain amount of "recovery time" is required.  

In your example, you use the term 'x amount of "abuse"  - I guess what I'm
asserting is that "x amount of proper playing" still requires 'y' amount of
recovery time.  Maybe less, but...  

Perhaps we have three different variables here:  x, y and "p" for ("Press
like hell").
