[TPIN] Playing in a section with JonTrimble

On the other hand some of the pros we've "driven" away didn't have a thick
enough skin to debate or discuss anything if he contradicted what they said
or believed. Many of them simply weren't used to not having instant
credibility when they walk into the room and were even more unused to people
challenging their absolutes.

Most of the guys who were known pros who left TPIN didn't go to other
forums. Some started their own online resources where they are the "expert"
and there is no way to challenge them. They did it for ego and for pure PR.
Not to give anything really to the trumpet community. There are plenty of
examples of this.

Personally, I have more respect for those who stick in there and duke it out
and who accept the challenge in an online forum where they usually have to
learn a new way of communicating their expertise.(plenty of examples of this
too) People are more inclined to challenge an expert on an internet forum
than they are in person. Some pros simply can't handle that. Those that can
and who do take the time to engage in the process do us a great service. I
could name names on both sides of this fence, but there are a great many
more who just bail rather than go through the process. Some of them just
fade away, some go away with a good deal of nastiness and they lose fans and
potential listeners in the process. The two you mentioned in your post fall
into the latter category unfortunately.

Being a well-known player (or even an not so well-known pro) is not a
license to be a jerk with an inflated ego and opinions that are not to be
challenged. A discussion forum like TPIN is a place to debate issues and
share experiences, not a bully pulpit or a soapbox. If you step up to the
plate and state a point of view be prepared to field comments, objections
and other ways of thinking. Don't just go away mad the first time someone
calls Bravo Sierra on what you've said.

Of course, I'm prepared to take plenty of heat on what I've just written.
:-)
