The real troubble is the arquitecture of the instrument. Almost all are based on B flat trumpets (see how long is the bell) with a shorter leadpipe. Proportions of tapered and straight tube are very different of the B flats. That's why most often feel that a C trumpet needs to be played differently than a b flat. 
A bit of publicity: That's why my C trumpets are in tune: shorter with B flat arquitecture. The same playing feel and intonation of a B flat.
