[TPIN] Adults playing in student productions

I think this arises from our culture seeing education
as a product instead of a process. You learn a bunch
of facts but you also need to learn to learn. Instead
we focus on passing standardized tests and producing
marketable school plays.

I have some very fond memories of HS plays. They made
me a temporary multi-instrumentalist. We didn't have
anyone who could cut the horn parts in Bye-Bye Birdy
so I borrowed a horn and made it work. There are some
nice lines in the horn parts there. The next year we
didn't have anyone who could cut the 'bone parts in
Forum so I picked up a Euphonium.

The highlight of that play was when the guy playing
Pseudolus, the HS head jock and center linebacker,
decided to 'dis' the band geeks by pretending to toss
his cookies over the pit we he had to drink the mare's
sweat at the dress rehearsal. He was close enough to
me so I raised the bell as a receptacle. It got a
great laugh at the rehearsal and I guess he felt
upstaged since he stayed away from the pit for the run
of the play.
