[TPIN] what you do when you aren't playing

I steal this idea from another thread

last night was the spring concert for Bob Odneal's jazz bands at the
college he teaches at. I played in the small combo portion of that.
everybody else in the group (Piano, guitars, and drums) was sitting
down. I was standing up. So when i was not playing, which obviously was
most of the time, after a bit, i would get self conscious. all sorts of
ridiculous ideas start going through my head.

Do I have to hold onto the trumpet, or can I set it in a chair next to me?
What do i do with my hands?

if you are not a seasoned entertainer in that sort of situation, there
is a real level of "man the whole world is looking at me even when i am
not playing, so how do i not look foolish" thing going on. And up on a
stage in an auditorium, it was much different then out in a small club
where i never felt that.

so what do you do?

(mostly i just looked over at my wife and blew her kisses, but don't
tell that to Odneal)
