"No one would be a professional female trumpet player for the money. My expenses are huge - there is so much travelling. And it's not glamorous. I don't fly business class. A lot of time is spent hanging around when you're not being paid. And it's risky. You never really know how a performance will go. I'm always on edge. Sometimes I want to be physically sick. But then if I'm not keyed up, I think something's wrong."

As you all know, I did receive a very nice email message from Alison.
That being said, this statement has NOTHING to do with just being a female trumpet player. ALL of us who travel on the road face the exact same challenges. Let's not get things mixed up here.

Yeah....That can't be a very comfortable, relaxing life. Before I was born, my dad was an office worker in Washington DC, and he liked to play poker after work.....He was good at it, and so he decided to quit his job, and make his living playing cards.....After a year, he sat down and figured out how much money he made, and how many hours he had to work, together with the booze he had to consume and the cigarettes he smoked, and the traveling he had to do, and he quit playing cards and went back to work in an accounting office.....He said that the hourly wages he cleared just wasn't worth ruining your health over.......
