The ideal way to do this, IMO, is to wear soundblockers that kill all the
sound, but contain a mike and amp that will feed you just the correct level
of sound that you need without hurting your hearing. This way, the sounds of
too great an intensity can be clipped off before the damage level is
reached, but the weaker sounds can be amplified so you don't miss
anything.....I believe sound protectors like this are made, but you are
right....They probably look too conspicuous to wear on stage......It's too
bad that looks are such an important part of performing.....
