Bob Malone works for Yamaha now of course, so you can't get a Malone Bach
conversion anymore. However, you can get one very close if not better by Ken
Larson at Larson Brasswerks. I have two of these horns and two of my
students have bought them as well. If you have to play a Bach, this is the
way to go imo.
He re does all the braces with thicker, heavier braces of his own design.
Plus the small braces between the first valve slide and the third valve
slide and tuning slide become movable and adjustable. He takes the silver
off the bell and buffs it down slightly. He puts on his leadpipe and tuning
slide design that is similar the the Malone pipes. He re does and lengthens
the collar between the bell and the first valve slide. He resolders the bell
rim and silver plates just the bead.
The horns play better than any Bach I've played and sound like a Bach.
Ken is a class act, easy to work with and does tremendous and very quick
work. He also has his own line of horns. I hear his Eb is the best on the
market. His web site is:
