Maybe a heavyweight mouthpiece would help. Or one of those sound sleeves that slides onto your mouthpiece. Both seem to take some of the upper partials out of the sound.
I have a naturally bright sound regardless of mouthpiece but have learned to change the way I blow the horn to darken the sound up a bit.

Subject: [TPIN] Need a Quality More Mellow Horn
I have a Bach Strad Model 37 My trumpet teacher noticed and commented
several times that the horn has a bright tambour. I have been given the suggestion
that I look for a more mellow sounding horn from some in a jazz group I play
in. I am able to modify the tone but it's still too bright for many things I
play. I am open to another Trumpet or a Cornet or modifications to my Model
37 that are not too expensive. Flugal horn is maybe too much of a change.
