The classical music faculty in this case seem to be part of the administrative process. Substitute classical faculty for administrators and the points are all still valid. But it seems to me that the administrators are responsible for major administrative decisions like this. The classical faculty doesn't make decisions of this magnitude, even if they are a part of the whole thing. they don't have the power to tell the University what to do
The bottom line is, who will be making the decisions to officially axe this University offering or reinstate it? Those people are the ones that need to be lobbied

Nick, I am not surprized anymore at how little our countrymen know about the significance of jazz as an American artform. They don't know history, they don't know the arts. Most of the education administrators I've ever met couldn't pass the history class I teach to teenagers. They are clueless. And unless it affects how they look to the community, they couldn't care less. They want to look good, period. They'll change their mind of their current stance makes them look bad in the community. If the University gets a little bit of bad press in the Sunday edition of the Chicago papers, somebody might change their tune. Perhaps this is an opportunity for a little public discourse about the music which otherwise would not happen. Let's hope something good can come out of it all.glenn

In this case it has nothing to do with education administrators. It has to do with the classical music faculty
