The last time I saw Dizzy I'm not sure what brand he was playing. I did
notice that it had no spit valves. He would occasionally pull a slide and
empty it.

For a good part of his career, he played a Martin Committee (who didn't?).
But toward the end of his life he played a Silver Flair as displayed in the
American History Museum at the Smithsonian Institution in D.C. When I
visited the museum, I latched on to a tour group with a volunteer guide. The
first thing I asked the guide was if we'd be seeing Dizzy's horn since my
instrument is trumpet. His eyes lit up where he told me that his cousin was
a trumpet player, that most of us old wheezer geezers are familiar with, who
for many years was in Welk's trumpet section - one George Thow. He told me
quite a bit about George's background where along with being a fine player,
he was also a graduate from Harvard University where he got his degree in
French literature. A most interesting afternoon where I asked him to use my
camera to take a picture of me standing at the showcase Dizzy's horn was
displayed in. Thankfully, the pix came out fine and have a nice visual
memory of that day. Oh, the things that can make a person happy. 8-)

Many call El Lippo a piece of work.
But this piece of work is a true work of art.
