> The Besson Destino? Not sure I know what that is and didn't know it existed, I guess.....can you elaborate a bit?
As many of you know Doc worked with a German builder to have the
original Destino built. This was an amazing horn, and price to show
it. For reasons unbeknown to me, Doc decided to have the horn
manufacturered in the US. He worked with Besson and I believe Zig
Kanstul to build the Destino in the US. When I first heard about this
I just assumed that the horn would essentially be like many other
Kanstul trumpets (fine trumpets, but not worth $4,000). Boy was I
wrong. I finally decided to give one a shot a couple of months ago
and I haven't played any of my other horns since.
Here's the basic specs on the horn: .460" bore, 4 7/8" one piece bell
(available in a 3 or 5 taper), hand lapped Monel pistons, the mating
of a special designed bell and leadpipe, 1st and 3rd slide throws with
a stop screw, 1st slide weight harmonic stabilizers, two water keys,
and available in lacquer, silver or gold plated finish. Does not
include a case or mouthpiece.
If you are interested, drop me a line. I can order one for you at a
heck of a price while they are on closeout.
