[TPIN] My weak third finger

One thing that I was taught that does seem to help me
is to practice tough passages using the 2nd, 3rd, and
4th fingers on valves 1,2,3 respectively. It's VERY
hard for me to do, and very unpleasant to practice for
any length of time (and my wife, daughter, and dog
will tell you it's no picnic to listen to, either)-
but it does work the 3rd finger more than it usually
gets, and makes the passage seem easier when you go
back to the normal fingering. Keeping your pinky out
of the hook/ring is also key - if this is a hard habit
to break, as it was for me, plug the hook so you can't
use it. A slice of wine cork works well, plus you get
to drink the wine.

Good luck-
Dave
