[TPIN] B&S Challenger Trumpets??

There have been a lot of these horns around my area the last few years. The
early ones were quite nice, played well, and pretty we out Bach'ed Bachs.
Their models are copies of the more common Bach Strad models. Build-wise,
they are vastly superior to Bachs, including the couple of new ones I've
seen.

I recently tried a lot of different models they make, and they were rather
variable, some played very well, others were stuffy, lacked resonance or had
intonation issues. A good one, however, is a very good instrument.

These things will vary hugely with different players, and also with
different mouthpieces, so it may be a case of if you find one that works,
get that individual horn...

Hope that helps

Subject: [TPIN] B&S Challenger Trumpets??

Folks,

Recently I was able to a B&S Challenger trumpet for about 30 minutes. Other
than knowing that they're are made in Europe, I don't know anything thing
about them.

Their web site is:

http://www.vogtlaendische-musik.com/challenger/index.php

It played pretty well, particularly when I got E on the staff and above.
I'm curious on the opinion of this list is of them ??

I'm a comeback player who's been playing for 2 years after not touching a
horn for 27 years. I'm playing on a student grade horn at the moment
(Getzen 390) and don't have much experience with Pro horns.

Thanks.

Charlie
