[TPIN] TPIN CHAT connection instructions

Instructions for connecting to the TPIN chatroom on the Starchat IRC
Network.  If you have problems just contact me off-list and I’ll help you
work it out!  Thanks!

CHATZILLA (requires FireFox browser)

   Okay, here are the steps for installing FireFox Internet Browser.  If
you’ve already got it installed on your computer, skip to the next section.

1 - Download Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
a)  Select Standard Installation.
b)  Launch FireFox after installation completes
c)  Import your settings from IE (recommended).
d)  Import your home page from IE (recommended).

Now, to install Chatzilla follow these steps.

1 - Go to http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com.

2 - Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look in the far right corner.
    Click on the blue text that says "install 0.9.77".  (This number may
change
    when new versions are available.)

3 - Notice that a yellow bar comes up in the Firefox browser that says
    "Firefox prevented this site (chatzilla.hacksrus.com) from asking you to
install
    software on your computer."  Click on the button that reads "Edit
Options" on 
    the far right of this yellow bar and then click on the ALLOW button for
the
    site chatzilla.hacksrus.com in the window that pops up. Then click CLOSE
to close
    that small window.

4 - Click on the blue "install 0.9.77" button again.  (This time it'll
work!)  A Software Installaion box will pop up.  Wait 2 seconds for the
Install button, and
    then click install.  Firefox will install Chatzilla into itself, and
then
    prompt you to restart Firefox.  Click on the Restart button and Firefox
closes and
    restarts.

    Chatzilla is now installed.  Let's take a few seconds to configure it.

1 - Within FireFox, click on the Tools menu at the top and then click on
Chatzilla.
    The Chatzilla box pops up.

2 - Within the Chatzilla box, click on the Chatzilla menu and then click
Preferences.
    The Chatzilla Preferences box pops up.

3 - On the General Tab in the right pane, scroll down to the Identification
section.
    Fill in Username (this should be your *real* first and last name.  
    Fill in Nickname (this will be the name that appears in the chat window)
    Fill in Nickname-(away) if you like...this is optional.

4 - Now, click on the Startup Tab.  Scroll down to Auto-Connect URL's.
Click the ADD    button and in the "Prompt" window that pops up enter the
text "irc://irc.starchat.net"  (WITHOUT QUOTES!) and then click OK.  Click
OK at the bottom of Chatzilla Preferences box to close it.

5 - Close Chatzilla! dialogue box.  

6 - Now, in Firefox - Click on the Tools Menu, Click on Chatzilla.
Chatzilla will now connect you to Starchat.  Lots of text will fly by in the
Chatzilla window that pops up.  When it's through (usually about 3 - 5
seconds) you'll see a 1 line window down
at the bottom of the Chatzilla box.  In that window, type "/join #tpin
doublec" (again,
WITHOUT QUOTES) and you'll join the TPIN chatroom.

7 - Once you're in the room, ask me to help you configure Chatzilla some
more so that you just have to type in the URL in Firefox browser to connect.

Connect using mIRC (this version optimized for Starchat)

    If you would like to avoid installing FireFox browser to use the TPIN
chatroom, follow these instructions.  This will install a Starchat optimized
version of the popular IRC program mIRC on your computer.  It's shareware,
so if you really like it then pay the small fee after 30 days of using it.

1 - Go to http://www.starchat.net and click on the StarMIRC button near the
 top-center of the page.

2 - Save the file to your hard disk and then double-click it to install.
OR, simply click on the RUN button when it prompts you for the download.

3 - Follow the instructions to install it.  I recommend you just click the
    NEXT button whenever it comes up, and click the YES button when it asks
you
    if it's ok to create the new folder to install mIRC into.  At the end
you
    must click the Exit button to launch MIRC.

4 - Click the CONTINUE button when MIRC launches.

5 - Close the Notepad file that pops up.

6 - On the Tools menu click Options.  The mIRC Options dialogue button pops
up.

7 - In the mIRC Options box, look in the left pane.  Connect should be
highlighted.
    If it isn't, click it ONCE.  Then over to your right erase "StarmIRC" in
the 
    Nickname box and enter your nickname.  Enter an alternative nickname in
case
    that one is being used.

8 - In the left pane, click once on Options.  Now, on the right click
"Connect on
    Startup" so that there is a green check in the box next to it.

9 - Now, look lower and you'll see a "Perform..." button.  Click on it.

10 - The Perform box will pop up.  Enter the following text, without quotes,
into
     the box marked "Perform commands:" - "/join #tpin doublec" (again, no
quotes).

11 - Click OK.

12 - Click OK in the mIRC Options box.

13 - Close mIRC by clicking on the red X in the very upper right hand corner
of your
     monitor.

14 - Restart StarMIRC.  Click the CONTINUE button.  

15 - In the upper left hand corner you'll see a small lightning-bolt icon.
It's the first icon on the left.  Click it.  You'll then connect to Starchat
and enter
immediately into the chatroom.  Once you're in there, just type in text to
chat
in the line at the bottom and hit enter to send!

Javachat (easiest to use, requires no setup, but sometimes doesn’t work
properly)

   Internet Explorer doesn't have Java installed by default.  Firefox
browser does.  You need to have Java installed to use the Javachat feature
that is on the Starchat webpage at http://www.starchat.net.

   The quickest way to get into the TPIN chatroom is by JavaChat.
If you have Firefox browser already installed, simply go to
http://www.starchat.net and enter a  username in the small Java Chat
Interface box and click on the CHAT button next to it.

   This will launch the JavaChat in a new Tab in Firefox.  Fill out the
following boxes:

-  Nick (the nickname you want to show in the chatroom)
-  Channel/Room - put "tpin" (without quotes) in this box.
-  Channel/Room Key - put "doublec" (again, without quotes) in this box.

 Then, click the CONNECT TO STARCHAT button below and you'll connect.
