Right. This seems to be a pretty "classic" choice difference for 
lead/commercial playing, in particular.

I tested some horns down at Dillons a few weeks back, specifically looking 
for difference based on bore size (stepped or otherwise - don't want to open 
that conversation again<g>) and bell flare.  I was amazed at the difference 
in "feel" between a Bach LT with a 43 bell vs. the same horn with a 72.  Not 
only that, it was an objectively discernable difference in *sound* - I had a 
person with me (actually, my son) listen with his back turned, and he could 
identify the difference 3 times in a row.  Also... the 72 felt easier in the 
upper register, and also warmer and more open in the middle and low register.
