All:

A quote applicable to the care and feeding of trumpets.

"Ignorance is curable, stupidity is not." (BTW, stupidity
is defined as a low ability to profit from experience--and
the best way to learn from experience is to learn from
someone else's experience).

After my first band concert in 1963 I set my shiny new
cornet down on a xylophone and left for another area. I
came back to find it had been dropped and dented. "In
the hand or in the case" instantly became my motto for
the following 43 years. It makes me nervous to set my
horn down anywhere, even to work on it. IMHO setting a
delicate and expensive instrument in a precarious
position qualifies as stupidity.
