I think Jim Donaldson was hinting in a nice way that
the larger Getzen Eterna flugelhorns might not be good
enough for the picky discerning pro. The trombone like
sound, the bore size , and the intonation issues are
the three main strikes that pros have against the
Getzen Eterna flugelhorn.

Well, Mickey, I have been accused of having an "axe to grind" against
Monette today, so I guess I could say the same about your feelings on the Getzen
flugelhorns.
The Eterna has been around longer than any other model flugelhorn. Must be
something to that. It is NOT a top of the line horn anymore and hasn't been
for a while, so why compare apples and oranges?
I do happen to think that my 3895 Getzen flugel will stand up to any flugel
on the market today. I played a Yamaha 631 for many years and I like the
sound of the Getzen much more. The Yamaha is only a little better in tune, and
the few notes that I have to "lip" don't bother me at all on the Getzen.
(Especially after playing an old Cuesnon for many years before the Yamaha.)
To each his own. But please don't try to talk people out of even trying a
Getzen. They might just like it.
