Good observations Steve. There's a wide range of emotions surrounding  Dave's 
work and that's because he challenges age old ideas and wasn't  satisfied 
with the designs of the old masters. His work is outrageous and  challenges the 
ordinary and he's willing to tell world class players that they  can improve 
their sound. Clearly not everyone likes that but that's how it  goes sometimes

In my  conversations with Dave Monette I can say without qualification that 
he  believes in himself and walks his talk.  Is his direction in  
re-engineering the trumpet correct?  Any engineer knows that there  are trade 
offs.  Without people like Monette pushing the envelope on  engineering, the 
only direction we have prevailing in trumpet construction  is mass production 
in Asia.
