Its an old "rule" from bad brass methods text books so that music educators
often continue to preach it to young students. Same as teaching kids to tap
their foot so hard and so often that when they get to college they can't
shut it off. Same as teaching kids to "breathe from the diaphram" and
"Support your air with your diaphram." Same as teaching kids to tongue stop
on staccato notes. Its called "misinformation."
