[TPIN] Which school of Music?

I can't agree with those who thing you should automatically get the music ed
degree. I deal with this all the time as a college educator.
I always tell students wrestling with this to simply get a degree in
something you really love. Mainly because you will enjoy being in college
and you will be much more likely to finish and earn a bachelors degree of
some kind. This degree can open many doors in the future that are quite
closed to those without it.
Do we want people teaching our children in the schools who only have an ed.
Degree as a "fall back?" No, we want people who are extremely committed to
being educators. People who have a passion for teaching. Not someone who has
to teach beginning band because they couldn't cut it as a performer.
People with music majors - performance or otherwise - are in a great
position to go into many different fields. Many go to law school and get
advanced degrees in something unrelated. A music degree prepares you for
great things imo.
