[TPIN] Horns, mouthpieces and section blend?

Again, I think we are way too concerned with this also.
If all the players are good players and if the instruments are fairly modern
orchestral horns it shouldn't matter if they are playing Bb or C. Tuning can
be an issue though.. It seems to be a bit easier at times for 1 and 2 to be
on the same pitched horn. Doesn't matter what 3 plays. Some times tuning is
easier when 2 is on Bb. It just depends. Some European orchs who use mostly
rotaries will often have the principal on C and the others on Bb. The brass
pyramid and all that.
In quintets I've played in it was common for the two guys to be on different
pitched horns - c and bb at least. I always tell the other player to play
whatever is most comfortable for them.
