Agreed.  Doc *and* Smithers versions were inspired examples of trumpet
playing <period>.  There were mornings where I would go out of my way to
"catch" the opening - or be happy that we were playing hooky from Church and
turn on CBS - at 10am.  (I actually look forward to Church on Sunday
mornings, so that's not an idle compliment). 

Anyway... as well as Wynton plays the small horns, the rendition they've got
on CBS Sunday morning now just doesn't "move me" - musically, nor as a
trumpet player.  I don't know - it just sounds too non-chalant, or
something.  And too small.
