[TPIN] Solotone mute?

Hey, I just played that show (Thoroughly Modern Millie). My wife conducted
the show for her school's production of it. I looked it up, and Doug
Besterman's score won a Tony in 2002, apparently. It's not bad. There are
some good features for the lead player, and there are lots of solos or solis
with the other two parts as well. They cannot lean on you to know where
they are. But there are no bad page turns; every page ends with rests at
the beginning of the next, with cues as to how many bars of rest you get.

My wife got me on lead tpt. as one of four adult ringers to supplement the
high school kids, who did very well. She left the trumpet playing to me,
and I chose essentially whatever mute I wanted for each piece. There is
such a thing as a solotone mute, but unless you're going to be playing in
tons of B'way shows or just like to collect mutes, I don't see the point in
spending the money. Sometimes I used my pixie straight mute, other times I
used my Jo-Ral cup mute with the felt insert for a "kinder, gentler" sound.

I don't play lots of shows, so I can't imagine I'll ever need a Solotone
mute anytime soon.
