I read alot of biographies. It's a hobby of mine. Mostly jazz and 
mostly trumpeters. And this statement by Rick above characterizes 
almost every bio I have read. There's no description of horns, 
mouthpieces, modifications, experiments, etc ever mentioned in these 
biographies. You know it went on, and I for one would love to read 
about it. But it's always left out. Maybe editors thing only gearheads 
would appreciate that sort of thing. Sure would add alot of color to 
the already colorful cast of characters in jazz, past and present.
