Steve,
If he can flutter tongue, have him try that. It'll get him used to the general area where the tongue will go.
Worth a shot...

Subject: [TPIN] Secondary students?
Greetings,
As a college trumpet teacher, I sometimes teach music ed students on their
secondary instrument. One such student is a clarinet/bass clarinet player
and he is having trouble adapting to a different style of tonguing on the
trumpet. I can get him to tongue clearly without the instrument, using
what I call "air tonguing", but when the mouthpiece hits his face, he
reverts to a "dooh" or "thooh" sound.
Any suggestions and/or techniques? I haven't had this problem with a
woodwind player before.
Thanks,
Steve
